How experts hang ornaments on Pre-lit Christmas trees

If you have a pre-lit tree, your job is made easier because the lights are already strung and spaced evenly. You just have to hang each ornament on its own hook in one of the branches.

The Art of Hanging Ornaments on Pre-Lit Christmas Trees: Expert Tips and Tricks

The key to hanging Christmas ornaments is making sure they’re spaced evenly so the tree doesn’t look lopsided when it’s finished. Here’s how:

  • Use a tape measure to determine the distance between each ornament. If you don’t have one, use a ruler and mark off measurements with a pencil or pen.
  • Starting at the top of your tree, measure down from each branch tip by the same distance as all other ornaments will hang below it (for example: if you want two ornaments per branch, measure two inches down). Mark these spots with a pencil or pen so you’ll remember where to make holes for your hooks later on.
  • Use your measuring tape again to mark off this distance from the next branch tip down — not just from where your last hook will be placed but also from where its string of lights will be hanging on the trunk of your tree (if there’s one).
  • Wrap each light and ornament in bubble wrap before putting it on the tree. This will protect your ornaments from breaking as well as keep them free of dust and debris that could damage them over time.
  • If you’re hanging glass ornaments, make sure they’re not touching metal parts of the tree because they can break if they come into contact with each other. If necessary, place a layer of paper between them so they don’t touch during transport or storage.
  • If you want to hang your glass ornaments further down on the branch than what’s recommended by the manufacturer — many are designed only for use up near the top — use a piece of ribbon instead of wire hangers that come with most glass decorations. The ribbon gives you more flexibility for hanging where you want it without damaging any part of your tree’s design.

  • Hanging Ornaments with Wire: This is the easiest way to hang your ornaments, especially if you have an artificial tree. You simply bend the wire hanger into an S shape and place it over the branches of the tree. Then simply hang your ornament on it.
  • Hanging Ornaments with Ribbon: If you want to add a bit of color to your Christmas tree, then this is a great way to do so. Simply tie a piece of ribbon around the branch of your choice and then place your ornament onto it. It’s as simple as that.
  • Hanging Ornaments with Plastic Bags: This is one of my favorite methods because it allows you to use any type of ornament without worrying about damaging it. It also helps keep them from falling off due to weight issues! All you need is one plastic bag and some tape (duct tape works best). Cut a hole in each corner of the bottom part of the bag where there are no folds or creases, then place it over one branch at a time, folding over top flap and making sure all edges are covered completely.
